Saddleworth playing with 8 players won the toss and electing to bowl first. Starting well managed to contain Royton in the early stages and got 2 early breakthroughs with both openers going reasonably cheaply. Then to the wicket came the strong middle order of Alfie McMylor, Mason Everton and Jack Fawcett, all making easy work of the saddleworth attack all reaching retirment scores. Saddleworth stuck at at it and restricted Royton to 128/3.
Chasing a large total without a full team is hard enough knowing that mistakes and wickets become more costly. With both Denver Sullivan-Hadfield & Matty Reddish both going early, Jacob Holt tried to steady the ship with some good assured batting but the team had already lost 5 wickets before he reached retirement with an impressive 32no. Saddleworth finishing on 63/6 with 4 overs remaining. No harm losing to a strong team like Royton as long as we learn from the experience and take it throughout the season into other matches.
